Blackheads

What are blackheads?

Blackheads are an extremely common skin condition, that can affect many people throughout their life. However typically they appear most among young adults and those undergoing any hormonal changes. Blackheads are a form of acne and occur when open bumps in the skin become congested and fill with dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells. The filled bumps then begin to oxidise causing them to appear as brown bumps on the skin. Blackheads are most common on oily skin types where excess oil is produced. Whilst most of us will experience blackheads on our skin at some point in our lives, for some it can be a common skin condition. The appearance of our skin is important to many, so adults that do have skin that is prone to blackheads and other skin concerns can become self conscious with the appearance of their skin & lack confidence. 

What are the causes & symptoms of blackheads?

There are a number of reasons as to why blackheads can develop on the skin and some skin types are more prone than others. This could be down purely to genetics, skin type or hormonal changes whilst in some cases factors such as medication, alcohol and poor diet could also be a contributing factor. Here are some symptoms to look at to help you determine if you have or are prone to blackheads:
