What is Acne?
Acne is a common skin condition, with about 95% of people being affected by acne at some point in their life. It typically effects people aged between 11-30 but it can appear at any stage of life. The skin condition causes spots to appear and the skin to become oily and congested. In more serious cases skin can become painful, hot to touch and red in appearance. Acne can develop in many areas of the body, however the most common areas are the face, back and chest. Acne typically appears on the skin as blackheads, whiteheads and spots often filled with pus. Whilst it’s a condition that affects many at different stages throughout life, those with adult acne or a severe case can often be left feeling self conscious & unhappy with their appearance.
Causes & Symptoms
Acne develops as a result of pores on the skin becoming clogged with debris, excess oil and bacteria. This typically happens when the glands next to hair follicles overproduce oil and the most common cause for this happening is an imbalance in hormones. Other causes can be related to family history and acne can be hereditary.
